Norway – gold and silver winners in NEVZA Championships

Denmark hosted this years U-19 Championships, that were held in Ikast. For the girls there were 5 teams, that were aranged in one group. For the boys there were 6 teams, that were arranged in 2 groups. They were ranked accoding to last years results.

Girls:

All the teams played each other. After the first matchday, it was clear, that especially Denmark and Sweden would challange for the gold, but Norway had other plans.

The first day, Denmark and Sweden had won resp. Faroe Islands and Norway, but on day two Norway managed to win Denmark in a wery tight and wellplayed match. The result was 3-2. The final set ending 18-16 to Norway!

On the final day Denmark had to win Sweden to take gold. Tey did not, as the match again for Denmark ended 3-2 to the guests. This meant, that Sweden were winners, and Demnark had to settle for bronze, as Norway won the Faroe Islands to take the silver.

Boys:

For the boys, no. 1 in group 1 played no. 2 in group 2 and no. 2 in group 1 played no. 2 in group 2 in the semifinals. No. 3 in both groups played one match for 5. place.

Demnark and Norway won their groups and awoided each other in the semifinals. There Denmark won a tight match against Sweden 3-2. England was well beaten by Norway in the other semifinal, so the final was all set for the two best teams in the Championships.

The final started well for Denmark, as they managed to win the tight first set 26-24. But after that it was all Norway, and the final result was 3-1 to the guests.
